House votes for possible TikTok ban but app won't go away soon Los Angeles Times

Hawaii, which has thousands of homes with rooftop solar, has cut down on the payments those households get from the grid. It has also undercut the benefits of installing rooftop solar. Since the 1990s, California has been paying owners of rooftop solar panels when they export their energy to the grid.

Some state politicians are now trying to reverse the rule. Nadya Okamoto, a content creator who has roughly 4 million followers on TikTok, said she has been having conversations with other creators who are experiencing “so much anger and anxiety” about the bill and how it’s going to affect their lives. The 26-year-old, whose company, August, sells menstrual products and is known for her advocacy around destigmatizing menstrual periods, makes most of her income from TikTok. Dozens of states and the federal government have put in place TikTok bans on government devices.

The company has good reason to think a legal challenge could be successful, having seen some success in previous legal fights over its operations in the U.S. In November, a federal judge blocked a Montana law that would ban TikTok use across the state after the company and five content creators who use the platform sued. The bill’s quick path through Congress is extraordinary because it targets one company and because Congress has taken a hands-off approach to tech regulation for decades. Lawmakers had failed to act despite efforts to protect children online, safeguard users’ privacy and make companies more liable for content posted on their platforms, among other measures.

Texas’ ban was challenged last year by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, which argued in a lawsuit that the policy was impeding academic freedom because it extended to public universities. In December, a federal judge ruled in favor of the state. A standalone bill with a shorter, six-month selling deadline passed the House in March by an overwhelming bipartisan vote as Democrats and Republicans voiced national security concerns about the app’s owner, the Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd.

In the summer, when high air conditioning use strains the grid, solar can be useful even in the middle of the day. Denholm says that as solar continues to drop in price, installing solar that is curtailed regularly can still be cost-effective. “Throwing away some amount of renewable energy can absolutely make economic sense,” he said.

They sit in dry, desert landscapes in the Central Valley and are scattered over rooftops in Los Angeles’s urban center. By last count, the state had nearly 47 gigawatts of solar power installed — enough to power 13.9 million homes and provide over a quarter of the Golden State’s electricity. Other states, which have been slower to adopt solar, are starting to experience the same thing. Nevada, which generates 23 percent of its power from solar, has also seen deepening duck curves.

Where FUN, FOOD, FAMILY and FRIENDS come together

Since mid-March, TikTok has spent $5 million on TV ads opposing the legislation, according to AdImpact, an advertising tracking firm. The ads have included a diverse group of content creators, including a nun, extolling the positive impacts of the platform on their lives and arguing a ban would trample on the 1st Amendment. The company has also encouraged its users to contact Congress, and some lawmakers have received profanity-laced calls.

(That’s roughly 1 percent of the state’s overall power generation in a year, or 5 percent of its solar generation.) Last year, the state did that in just the first eight months. In response, California has cut back incentives for rooftop solar and slowed the pace of installing panels. But the diminishing economic returns may slow the development of solar in a state that has tried to move to renewable energy. And as other states build more and more solar plants of their own, they may soon face the same problems.

It can feel overwhelming facing the impacts of climate change, but there are ways to cope with climate anxiety.

In the spring, when the duck curve is deepest, that number can dip close to zero. Customers can get more money back if they install batteries and provide power to the grid in the early evening or morning. Curtailing solar isn’t technically difficult — according to Paul Denholm, senior research fellow at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, it’s equivalent to flipping a switch for grid operators. But throwing away free power raises electricity prices.

Beyond the sunny West, many states are still trying to ramp up rooftop solar power and extend its reach beyond affluent households. The Biden administration announced $7 billion in grants this week to provide rooftop solar to 900,000 low-income households. But a year ago, the state changed this system, known as “net-metering,” and now only compensates new solar panel owners for how much their power is worth to the grid.

Ro Khanna (D-Fremont) voted against the legislation. He said he thinks there could have been less restrictive ways to go after the company that wouldn’t result in a total ban or threaten free speech.

Legal challenges could extend that timeline even further. The company has indicated that it would likely go to court to try to block the law if it passes, arguing it would deprive the app’s millions of users of their 1st Amendment rights. Our climate coach Michael J. Coren is answering questions about environmental choices in our everyday lives. Study designs: Part 1 An overview and classification

types of study design

Descriptive (or nonanalytical) studies, as the name suggests, merely try to describe the data on one or more characteristics of a group of individuals. These do not try to answer questions or establish relationships between variables. Examples of descriptive studies include case reports, case series, and cross-sectional surveys (please note that cross-sectional surveys may be analytical studies as well – this will be discussed in the next article in this series).

Dependent Variable

The experiment may be blinded, which means that any information which may influence the participant is withheld while the trial is ongoing or maybe double blinded in which the information is withheld from both the subject and the investigator [5]. Case reports pertain to a specific description of an individual demonstrating an atypical disease condition. The abnormal findings in the case report may imply an association between a risk factor and the disease.

Study designs: Part 1 – An overview and classification : Perspectives in Clinical Research

On questions where two versions are used, significant differences in the answers between the two forms tell us that the difference is a result of the way we worded the two versions. It is usually called a meta-analysis by the author or sponsoring body and should be differentiated from reviews of literature. Cross-Sectional Studies - Studies in which the presence or absence of disease or other health-related variables are determined in each member of the study population or in a representative sample at one particular time. This contrasts with LONGITUDINAL STUDIES which are followed over a period of time.

There are two basic types of experimental research

For example, a the control arm of a randomised trial may also be used as a cohort study; and the baseline measures of a cohort study may be used as a cross-sectional study. As you can see, grounded theory is ideally suited to studies where the research aims involve theory generation, especially in under-researched areas. Keep in mind though that this type of research design can be quite time-intensive, given the need for multiple rounds of data collection and analysis. There are many different research design types when it comes to qualitative studies, but here we’ll narrow our focus to explore the “Big 4”.

Community trial

Examples of descriptive studies include a survey of dietary habits among pregnant women or a case series of patients with an unusual reaction to a drug. Cohort studies can be classified as prospective and retrospective.7 Prospective cohort studies follow subjects from presence of risk factors/exposure to development of disease/outcome. This could take up to years before development of disease/outcome, and therefore is time consuming and expensive. On the other hand, retrospective cohort studies identify a population with and without the risk factor/exposure based on past records and then assess if they had developed the disease/outcome at the time of study. Thus, the study design for prospective and retrospective cohort studies are similar as we are comparing populations with and without exposure/risk factor to development of outcome/disease.

In other words, you can’t generalise the findings from a case study to the broader population. For example, if you’re studying smartphone addiction among adolescents in your community, you could deploy a survey to a sample of teens asking them to rate their agreement with certain statements that relate to smartphone addiction. The collected data would then provide insight regarding how widespread the issue may be – in other words, it would describe the situation. Research design refers to the overall plan, structure or strategy that guides a research project, from its conception to the final data analysis. A good research design serves as the blueprint for how you, as the researcher, will collect and analyse data while ensuring consistency, reliability and validity throughout your study. Study designs are the set of methods and procedures used to collect and analyze data in a study.

”; 88% said they were dissatisfied, compared with only 78% without the context of the prior question. An example of a wording difference that had a significant impact on responses comes from a January 2003 Pew Research Center survey. When people were asked whether they would “favor or oppose taking military action in Iraq to end Saddam Hussein’s rule,” 68% said they favored military action while 25% said they opposed military action. The introduction of U.S. casualties altered the context of the question and influenced whether people favored or opposed military action in Iraq.

Double-Blind Method - A method of studying a drug or procedure in which both the subjects and investigators are kept unaware of who is actually getting which specific treatment. In this research design, the researcher explores concepts and ideas on a subject to explore more theories. The main aim of the research is to explore the subjects’ undiscovered aspects and answer questions like what, how, and why.

Research Design Vs Research Methodology

In these studies, the researcher assesses the effect of an exposure (or intervention) on an outcome. As described earlier, analytical studies can be observational (if the exposure is naturally determined) or interventional (if the researcher actively administers the intervention). Interventional studies are experiments where the researcher actively performs an intervention in some or all members of a group of participants. This intervention could take many forms – for example, administration of a drug or vaccine, performance of a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure, and introduction of an educational tool.

This is because certain responses can be modified based on the knowledge of the experiment group that they are in. For example, a group allocated in the non‐intervention group may not feel better as they are not getting the treatment, or an investigator may pay more attention to the group receiving treatment, and thereby potentially affecting the final results. However, certain treatments cannot be blinded such as surgeries or if the treatment group requires an assessment of the effect of intervention such as quitting smoking. In block randomization, the subjects of similar characteristics are classified into blocks. The aim of block randomization is to balance the number of subjects allocated to each experiment/intervention group. For example, let's assume that there are four subjects in each block, and two of the four subjects in each block will be randomly allotted to each group.

In these studies, the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring are performed exclusively according to medical practice and not according to a specified study protocol.[9] They are subclassified as per Figure 2. Retrospective Studies - Studies used to test etiologic hypotheses in which inferences about an exposure to putative causal factors are derived from data relating to characteristics of persons under study or to events or experiences in their past. The essential feature is that some of the persons under study have the disease or outcome of interest and their characteristics are compared with those of unaffected persons.

There could be a ‘carry-over’ effect (carrying the improvement from the first treatment to the second phase) for the participants. A nested case‐control study consists of defining a cohort with suspected risk factors and assigning a control within a cohort to the subject who develops the disease.10 Over a period, cases and controls are identified and followed as per the investigator's protocol. Hence, the case and control are matched on calendar time and length of follow‐up. When this study design is implemented, it is possible for the control that was selected early in the study to develop the disease and become a case in the latter part of the study. Cohort studies are typically chosen as a study design when the suspected exposure is known and rare, and the incidence of disease/outcome in the exposure group is suspected to be high. The choice between prospective and retrospective cohort study design would depend on the accuracy and reliability of the past records regarding the exposure/risk factor.

These studies all include matched groups of subjects and assess of associations between exposures and outcomes. In experimental studies, the researcher manipulates the exposure, that is he or she allocates subjects to the intervention or exposure group. Experimental studies, or randomised controlled trials (RCTs), are similar to experiments in other areas of science. That is, subjects are allocated to two or more groups to receive an intervention or exposure and then followed up under carefully controlled conditions.

Medical research has evolved, from individual expert described opinions and techniques, to scientifically designed methodology-based studies. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) was established to re-evaluate medical facts and remove various myths in clinical practice. Studies were classified based on the method of collection and evaluation of data. Clinical study methodology now needs to comply to strict ethical, moral, truth, and transparency standards, ensuring that no conflict of interest is involved.

” – are difficult for respondents to answer and often lead to responses that are difficult to interpret. In this example, it would be more effective to ask two separate questions, one about domestic policy and another about foreign policy. The choice of words and phrases in a question is critical in expressing the meaning and intent of the question to the respondent and ensuring that all respondents interpret the question the same way. Even small wording differences can substantially affect the answers people provide.

It helps in determining association between an exposure (risk factor) and an outcome across different populations rather than individuals. For example, of ecological study is the comparison of the prevalence of lung cancer in Russia and Germany. Ecological studies are cost-effective and often serve as the initiation point for generation of hypothesis.

Mattel has mostly garnered praise for its diversity efforts but it’s had some missteps along the way. In 2021, the toy maker said it “fell short” by failing to include an Asian doll in a line of Tokyo Olympics-themed Barbies. In January, there was some backlash to Asian “You Can Be Anything” Barbies that seemed stereotypical. In the ‘90s, touring show Stars on Ice put out a line of dolls modeled after notable skaters. Yamaguchi, who became the first Asian American to win an individual figure skating gold medal, at the 1992 Winter Olympics, has been immortalized as a doll for Barbie’s “Inspiring Women Series,” Mattel announced Wednesday. The release is timed for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, in May.

They may seem like simple toys but dollhouses come with a range of benefits that can help your child learn and grow in many ways. Dollhouses are timeless, you can rebuild them and save them for a very long time. Your child can easily arrange furniture or add characters in their little playhouse. These activities help them cultivate a strong foundation for creative thought that can last for a lifetime. Consequently, this theme illustrates the enrichment of the participants’ personal lives as a result of having fulfilling professional lives, and emerged as an additional motivator. Reclaiming a sense of pride and expanding their professional network through contributions to society represented profoundly fulfilling experiences for the participants. These experiences not only brought them joy in their work but also transcended the mere facilitation of work continuation. Consequently, “Pride in reconnecting with and contributing to society” operated as a potent motivator, driving their commitment to pursue their professional careers and advance, thus enriching their professional life. Baker's flag was embraced internationally as the symbol of the LGBTQ community and inspired many designers and activists to create subsequent flags for more specific identities, such as the light blue, white and pink transgender flag, created by Monica Helms in 1999. Last year, Valentino Vecchietti redesigned the flag to include the intersex symbol – a purple circle on a yellow background – to draw attention to the underrepresented group within the LGBT community. Perhaps the most famous rule of flag design – as stated by many vexillologists (flag experts) – is that they should be simple enough for a child to draw from memory.

Furthermore, nurses who juggle dual caregiving roles often experience fatigue and stress [44]. This is especially relevant, she adds, given that some larger organisations “are just not doing enough or supporting the community the way they should”. Not only have virtual events been more accessible to attend, but as Chauhan points out, they’ve been more accessible to host too. This has allowed creative community members to be their own curators, and address issues that might otherwise have been overlooked. Beyond easing design collaboration and working streams, the online world has facilitated celebrations that would have otherwise been abandoned. And similarly, these events have benefitted from the lack of geographic restrictions. Design Week speaks to Brooker as the month of Pride, celebrated each year in June, is drawing to a close.

Internal drivers are essential to maintain their motivation to work, especially during challenging times. The following three themes describe the motivators that encourage nurses to pursue their professional careers, thus enriching their professional life. The nursing shortage represents a persistent and urgent challenge within the healthcare industry. One of the most cost-effective and time-efficient solutions to address this issue is the recruitment of inactive nurses to rejoin the nursing workforce, while simultaneously ensuring the long-term sustainability of their careers following their return to work. The aim of this study is to explore the factors that facilitate the retention of nurses who have returned to work, from their perspective. According to the participants, they encountered arduous situations upon re-entering the workforce, as they were frequently required to perform tasks that exceeded their current skill sets.

The eighth and final season of the show primarily revolves around the relationship between House and Wilson after Wilson is diagnosed with terminal cancer. The titular doctor is backed by a diagnostic team of doctors and med students who play the part of Watson to his Holmes. However, he is frequently inspired to the solution by someone's passing comment or a suddenly remembered tidbit of information, so his team might not be so far off after all. House seems to despise his patients, and in his view he has good reason. They often cause their own misery and always lie about it, and this makes his job all the more difficult.

He has little patience for patients, but misanthropic Gregory House is a brilliant diagnostician who probes life-and-death medical mysteries while 'CSI'-style graphics follow each disease's progression. La La Land is in my top five favorite movies and easily my favorite movie set in Los Angeles, closely followed by Valentine’s Day. I have visited several filming locations from La La Land including Angels Flight, the Smoke House Restaurant, and the Lighthouse Cafe. The apartment that Mia lives in is located out in Long Beach and is stunning!

Over the years the color of the house has changed several times, the white picket fence is gone, but the unique shape is still recognizable. The House from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure is located at 1848 Oxley Street in South Pasadena. House, an acerbic infectious disease specialist, solves medical puzzles with the help of a team of young diagnosticians. Flawless instincts and unconventional thinking help earn House great respect, despite his brutal honesty and antisocial tendencies. As previously mentioned, if you’re not in your home country, don’t worry. You can use ExpressVPN or a similar service and then stream all your usual shows hassle-free.

Finding filming locations from movies and TV shows has become one of my favorite things to do. Lately, I have been visiting a lot of famous TV and movie houses in Los Angeles. Almost any part of the LA area will be home to at least one or two of the iconic houses. Since all the homes on this list are private residences I do ask and recommend that you try and be as respectful as possible when you go to visit.

Brandon and Brenda Walsh did not actually live in the zip code or Beverly Hills. The beautiful house looks just like it did on the show. Parking to take a photo at this particular home was not as easy as some of the others. The street is not very wide so you cannot pull off to the side very easily. Just be sure to watch out for the oncoming traffic and you’ll be fine.

Movie and TV Show Houses in Century City

This house is within walking distance from Fox Studios where the show was filmed so that worked out well for them. The Happy Days House is located near Paramount Studios where the show was filmed. I visited Garry Marshall’s grave the day after I came to see this house so it felt like a very full-circle moment.

Movie and TV Houses in Hollywood

I recommend visiting The Gamble House to admire the architecture and history as much as I recommend visiting it as a filming location. I have toured the house for free on two different occasions which you can read about here. This is Doc Brown’s house in the Back to the Future trilogy. In the scenes taking place in 1985, the mansion no longer exists and Doc lives in his garage/laboratory which in real life is the carriage house turned giftshop. The house from Young Sheldon is not in Texas, it is a short drive from the Warner Bros Studio where the tv series is filmed. If you take the Warner Bros Studio Tour you might get to see some places in the backlots where the show has been filmed but they never open up the sets in the soundstages for viewing.

Respected by their colleagues throughout Los Angeles and around the world, our physicians are trusted by patients and the community for their expert and compassionate care. More than 100 UCLA Health physicians were named to Los Angeles Magazine’s 2023 list of “Top Doctors” in Los Angeles. The address for the Last Man Standing house is 611 Lorraine Boulevard in Windsor Square. The address for the apartment from New Girl is 837 Traction Avenue in DTLA. The address for the Happy Days house is 565 North Cahuenga Boulevard. The House where they filmed the basketball scenes is located at 500 North Almansor Road in Alhambra.

In this case, you do have to walk to the gate in order to see the house. Individual episodes and seasons can be purchased on platforms like Google Play and Microsoft Store for a reasonable price. And don’t forget that, if you want to watch House online as if you were viewing from home, a VPN is the easiest way to do so, no matter which continent you’re on. You can see my photos of various movies and TV show houses from my visit to the Warner Bros Ranch. The house pictured is where the Heck family lived in The Middle. The Father Of The Bride House is one of my favorites because it looks like such a perfect family home.

However, if you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory (and old Sheldon) you can see Sheldon and Leonard’s apartment and even sit in Sheldon’s spot. I grew up a big fan of Hilary Duff and always watched her movies. So when a friend of mine posted a picture of this house I knew I had to see it in person. It was a very short drive from Casa Walsh and was close to Eaton Canyon where I was hiking later that day.

House is almost always the one to see where they're all going wrong and, through that sudden inspiration, hit on the proper course of treatment. If you want to revisit 2008's most watched TV show in the world, read on as we detail how to watch House online, for free, no matter where you are. In the midst of ascertaining the right diagnosis, House belittles his colleagues, treats his patients with disdain, and clashes with hospital administrator Dr Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). House is ideal binge fodder - charting the exploits of physician, infectious disease specialist, and all-round wunderkind Gregory House and his team of diagnosticians.

The Gilmore Girls House is located on the Warner Bros Lot and can be seen on the studio tour as long as they are not filming in that area. Your best chance to see it is on the weekends when little to no filming is happening. For the last two Christmases, the studio has decorated the home for the holidays which has been incredible to see. While the majority of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was filmed on location in Chicago, there were a few scenes that were filmed in the LA area. The exterior scenes of the Bueller house were among the ones filmed on the West Coast. The house from Last Man Standing is in the Windsor Square neighborhood and while that is not DTLA I am going to group them together.

I know it doesn’t look like the set but getting to go inside such an iconic house is a rare chance. I’ve never watched a full episode of House it’s so sad. It never airs on Tv where I live, so I can only get what’s on YouTube is there any online place I could watch it? I’ve just finished watching all the clips on YouTube and I’m all outta content. Viewing all 177 episodes might take a while, however, so you might consider taking up membership on a $12.99 monthly basis.

Brown joins a short but growing list of law enforcement officials who have chosen sides in the close mayoral race. Earlier this month, Baltimore State’s Attorney Ivan Bates endorsed Dixon shortly after going public with what he called a growing “rift” between him and Scott. Bates said Scott has not been a “partner” on his implementation of a citation docket meant to prosecute low-level crimes. You cannot see the Boy Meets World house from the street. There are bushes providing a barrier between the home and the street. This home feels the most private in the sense that all of the other homes on the list are easily visible from the street and sidewalk.

The Mad Men house is actually walking distance from the Father Of The Bride house. This list will continue to be updated as I visit more filming locations. Be sure to check back to see what else gets added to this list. Most of the time, House and his team's initial guesses are wrong and often the resulting treatments make the situation worse.

The Dean of Medicine, and House's boss, is Dr. Lisa Cuddy, played by Lisa Edelstein. House's only real friend seems to be Dr. James Wilson, head of the Department of Oncology at the same hospital, played by Robert Sean Leonard. Often at odds, the two have a very complicated friendship. When things get serious, though, one of them is always there to defend the other. Wilson tries mostly unsuccessfully to help House kick his Vicodin habit, which began when House suffered an aneurysm in his thigh which was subsequently misdiagnosed.

You’ll get access to thousands of TV shows and films and can cancel your subscription whenever you like. Scott, the city’s mayor since 2020, is seeking reelection and trying to fend off challenges from former Mayor Sheila Dixon, former prosecutor Thiru Vignarajah and businessman Bob Wallace. The Democratic primary on May 14 is likely to determine the outcome of the race in deeply blue Baltimore. During an event at Everyman Theatre, Brown credited Scott and his violence prevention efforts, particularly the Group Violence Reduction Strategy, or GVRS, for the reduction the city saw in homicides in 2023. GVRS aims to intercept individuals deemed most vulnerable to becoming shooters or victims and offer them services to avoid becoming involved in crime.

It isn’t the most glamorous or stunning house to visit but for fans of the movie, it can still be fun to see. I wish I could visit the iconic Braverman house that Zeke and Camile owned on Parenthood but that was built on the Universal Backlots. However, there are locations where the many other characters lived that can be visited. This Pasadena home is where Adam & Kristina raise their three children on the show. I am going to be honest and admit that I have never seen an episode of Mad Men. But, I can’t pass up the opportunity to visit a famous filming location.

He'll only take a case if it seems unsolvable and he thrives on conflict and difficulty. Time to hunker down because all eight seasons are available now on multiple platforms.

Peacock also has all eight seasons available, giving viewers on that platform a chance to get a patient visit with Dr. House too. Should you decide to opt into this streamer, your account will be able to access the show on the Peacock's website or the Peacock app. John Connor lives with his foster parents at this house in Canoga Park.

This house is first shown in the “Frame Toby” episode and though it looks slightly different than it did in the show it is the actual location. While a lot of filming does take place in Downtown Los Angeles the homes for characters are typically found in more residential neighborhoods. One of the main exceptions is the apartment from New Girl. Several homes get a little bit of a transformation for their on-screen appearance. However, I think one of the homes that looks the most different is the house from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

This house is picturesque and has a fabulous fairytale vibe to it. The Brady Bunch House has been one of the most exciting homes that I have visited so far. After HGTV did the makeover of the house I was hoping that they might open it up for fans to see. It just happens to be five minutes away from my favorite place to eat. I definitely recommend getting food from Aroma Coffee and Tea while you’re in the area.

With staying at home now compulsory for many of us, we detail how to watch House online from anywhere so you can enjoy this engaging drama for free. The craftsman-style house is located near downtown Long Beach. North of Long Beach in San Pedro you can find the spot that was used for the school Anchor Beach on the series which you can read about in this post.

It is semi-close to The Grove if you want to stop by on a visit over there. As a huge fan of The Golden Girls seeing their “Miami” house in person was a thrill! I recently had the opportunity to see the inside of the home when it went on sale as it turns out that I knew the realtor. I wasn’t feeling well the day I was supposed to go so I had to pass on the experience.

While he becomes known for clashing with his fellow doctors and breaking hospital rules, he also is excellent at figuring out what is actually wrong with his patients. Back in 2004, there were many different shows on the air that captured the attention of TV-watchers. Among comedies like Friends and politically-focused such as The West Wing, fans of the medial drama genre were introduced to House, a TV show that would develop a massive cult following.

Here everything is top of the line, home cinema, spa area and the infinity-pool with an amazing view over the Pacific Ocean. Stairs which are standing totally freely in a room have a natural attraction for the eye. But if you combine that with an extraordinary design and use materials processed in very high quality then you gain a real eye-catcher. Siller Stairs provides custom design stairs, manufacturing and installation to clients around the world. We guide our clients from the very first idea of a design until the finished and installed product.

Rugged elegance with industrial and rustic elements

According to the designer, the staircase cabin is much more than just a transitional space. He metaphorically treats this element as a mood board for the space giving it a definition of its own. In the penthouse, the staircase acts as a spine and has been treated with equal proportions of classy and quirky. The ambient lighting from the chic long hanging fixtures creates a majestic frame. Your choice of color for your staircase will either make or break the aesthetic design.

Chunky Black Risers

We are researching continuously on new materials and connections to make our staircases floating, lighter and more impressive, a piece of art and charming for its environment. L-Shaped staircases, also known as quarter-turn stair or full-turn stairs, consist of two straight flights connected by a 90-degree turn. This turn adds both style and functionality to the staircase, as it can help optimize the use of available space. L-Shaped stairs also offer increased privacy since someone standing at the bottom cannot view the upper part. Traditional staircases often feature ornate details, intricate carvings, and decorative elements, reflecting a classic and timeless appeal. In contrast, modern staircase designs lean towards simplicity, clean lines, and minimalism.

At the top of the stairs hangs a collection of antique wildlife prints (McDonough Fine Art) along with a classical gilded wood mirror. Modern staircase designs have evolved to showcase stunning architectural features and creative design techniques. The house is revealed through a series of floating stairs, staggered in flight to open onto transitional spaces on each level, providing opportunities for pause and chance encounters. The bedrooms with careful space planning have small space for sleeping with integrated walk-in wardrobes.

This design approach enhances the sense of openness and merges indoor as well as outdoor living. Incorporate traditional Indian architectural elements by using jali (intricate latticework) designs in your staircase. Carved wooden or metal jali panels can be integrated as a railing or used as decorative screens alongside the staircase, adding a touch of intricacy and elegance to the overall design. An oversized window, light wood tones, and nearly invisible wire railings keep this staircase, designed by Nash Design Group, light and bright. A curated collection of decor items on a small table under the stairs makes the space feel intentional—not fussy.

The transparent glass allows in plenty of light, bringing an open and airy effect. If you're living in an urban minimalist loft with little space to spare, this ladder-inspired staircase design will be ideal. It's not only functional but also takes up less space than the traditional staircase design. It's common for modern home designs to have streamlined and clean lines as a design detail. Fortunately, you can incorporate a staircase design with straight lines that will complement the interior aesthetic appeal of your home as shown above.

If your home is contemporary through and through, when it comes to modern staircase ideas, there is lots to get creative with. From different materials to choose from, to innovative tread designs and more, you'll quickly be able to add interest to this often overlooked house feature in no time. A. Naber Design skipped a traditional railing and balusters in favor of a gently sloping half-wall that supports a light wood handrail. A narrow landing to the left of the stairs expands the space, while stone flooring and an in-ground tree create a natural transition from outdoors to in. This minimalist staircase by architect Shane Neufeld is a beautiful blend of form and function. The townhouse in New York, New York, originally featured a stacked stair; however, this switchback design makes it feel bigger and brighter.

Browse through a myriad of design inspirations and bring to life a modern staircase design that will leave a lasting impression. By adhering to Vastu’s recommendations in staircase design, one can create a space that not only exudes aesthetic appeal but also promotes a sense of well-being and positive energy throughout the home. For a unique and spiritually inspired design, consider incorporating elements reminiscent of Indian temple architecture. Moreover, design the staircase with columns or pillars that feature intricate carvings or sculptural details.

Designer Gary McBournie and architect Mike Fisher of Studio Indigo set out to honor this London rowhouse's original Victorian spirit by way of architecture and color. An example of this is the curved, aqua staircase topped by an oval oculus that pours daylight into the house’s core. The family’s French poodle, Hugo, leads guest up the stairs past a treelike sculpture specially commissioned from Canadian artist Laura Santini. They would split on the first level, and each of the branches would connect to separate areas of the floor above.

These beautiful staircase ideas will help you plot out your own grand entrance. The black wooden contemporary staircase is a clever space-saving design hack, which can be deployed in a small urban home. The space under the stairs can be used to keep plenty of books and knickknacks.

This design idea adds a playful and artistic element to the staircase while showcasing the rich Indian design heritage. The double archways preserved in this historic home add symmetry to the entryway. The two-tone staircase coordinates with the white walls and trim and the flooring in the foyer, while a neutral runner allows the architectural details to remain the focus. This gently curving staircase is classic in its natural wood and neutral tones. It provides the perfect framework for the landing, designed by Bria Hammel; a secluded area for a cushioned bench, plenty of plump pillows, and baskets of blankets.

You can really get creative with your stairs to make them more interesting, paint for example is a great option – paint each step a different color so they start light and get darker as you go up. Trying different stair runner ideas is a great way to add color and practicality to your space. On the actual wall of the stairs you can hang mirrors and artwork, and don’t forget there’s a huge selection of paneling options too – from ornate metalwork to contemporary glass panels. The blond wood teamed with the metal spindles gives it a sculptural quality and it has a Scandinavian feel with the clean lines and white painted support. This staircase is ideal for minimalists, it’s the focal point of the room and doesn’t need overly decorated surroundings to help it stand out.

You can also add sleek lighting fixtures and a minimalist handrail to complete the look. With a few simple updates, your staircase can become a stunning focal point in your home. Popular materials for modern staircases include glass, metal, wood, and concrete. Each material offers a distinct style and aesthetic, allowing homeowners a tailored modern look.
